ISTAI’2008 got tremendous support from researchers, practitioners as well as engineers in 2008. The total paper contributed reached 2358, after strict peer reviewing, 600 papers were accepted. Four volumes of paper proceedings were made, and were published by world Publishing Corporation, and all papers were indexed by ISTP.

More than 30 experts and scholars from worldwide attended in this symposium and gave speeches; as well as about 200 representatives from inland universities and institutions of China and universities attended, 13 of them read out their papers, and 100 of them published their papers.

The opening ceremony was directed by Professor Xu Baojie. Academician Zhang Zhonghua addressed for this Symposium as the Chairman. Vice President & Secretary General Senior Engineer of CIS Wu Youhua and Headmaster of Beijing Information Science Technology University Prof. Du Lin gave speeches deputized for sponsors and organizers respectively. Warmest welcome and heartfelt thanks were delivered to all the participants from all over the world, and the best wishes for the success of this Symposium were expressed. In the morning of 17th, after the opening ceremony, special Report “Test Automation Enables Industrial Innovation” was announced by Prof. of the University of Evansville, USA, Wallace Shakun. Academician Zhang Zhonghua gave speech named “The QHR Standard in China”. Special invited guest Gail Heck-Sweeny, the general manager of Agilent Technologies, gave speech named “Future of Wireless Broadband”. Three reports got extra warm welcome from all the participants.

In the afternoon, Prof. Masayashi Esashi (Tohoku University, Japan) gave special report “MEMS for Test and Instrumentation”, Prof. Volker Graefe (Bundeswehr University, Germany) gave special report “A Bionic Approach to the Design of Dependable Intelligent Robots”, Prof. Hu Huosheng (the University of Essex, UK) gave report named “Human-motion-tracking & Analysis: Challenges and Opportunities”, the speech named“Challenging Issues in Condition Monitoring and Failure Diagnosis of Modern Complex System” were given by Prof. Nagaraja Rao (the University of Southampton, UK), and special report “Precious Measurement of Current up to 1A” were given by Prof. Nakanishi Masakazu (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Japan) . The reports also got a favourable reception from all the participants.

In the next morning, Prof. Omar Elmazria (Nancy University, France), Prof. Mamoru Minami (Fukui University of Japan), Prof. Shen Xianneng(Risk Management Solutions, Inc, USA), Prof. Jong-Chul Lee (Kwangwoon University, Japan) and Prof. Xu Xiaoli (Beijing Information Science & Technology University, China) gave wonderful speeches on “Surface Acoustic Wave devices for wireless sensing applications”“Trials for Realizing Intelligent Robotics”“Software Manufacture Automation”“RF MEMS Technology for SI/PI Application” and “Concept, Mechanism and composition of IFDS” respectively.

In the afternoon of 18th, 20 speakers including foreign scholars and Chinese representatives gave presentations respectively in 3 separate sub-forums. The themes covered “Foundational Theories and Leading Technologies Signal and Image Proceeding”, “Measurement and control, instrument and system Sensor and Non-electric Measurement” and “Opto-Mechatronics Technology Environmental Monitoring and Protect”. Enthusiastic atmosphere of academic exchanging were full of the whole forum. Other representatives also got acquainted with their peer researchers, which made them understand better of their research fields. They exchanged ideas and experiences with each other which broaden their eyesight and made them got better prepared with the future innovation.
